    SUMMER FIRE PREVENTION TIPS

• Do not use a charcoal grill on any deck as hot ashes could fall onto the deck causing a fire.

• When using propane gas fired grill move the grill away from the building and railings on the deck.
Heat from the grill will melt vinyl siding and could set any wood on fire.

• Do not use gasoline to start a charcoal grill.

• Do not store gas containers in the basement of your home.

• When refueling gasoline powered equipment shut the unit off and let the engine cool down as spilled
gas on a hot muffler or engine will explode into a fire ball.

  WINTER FIRE PREVENTION TIPS

With the summer season almost over homeowners will be securing their homes and equipment for the
winter months.  Here are some safety tips to ensure that we all have a safe winter.

• Have the furnace cleaned before the heating season starts.

• If you burn wood have the chimney cleaned and inspected for cracks.

• If you intend on burning wood, check the chimney to see if it has a liner inside.
All chimneys that will be used to burn wood must have a liner.

• Do not store gasoline cans, propane tanks or gasoline powered equipment in a basement.  A leak in
one of these containers can be ignited by the furnace or hot water heater causing a fire or explosion.
Store them outside or in a shed.

• Check all smoke detectors.

• All homes should have a carbon monoxide detector installed near the furnace.

• If you have a live Christmas tree we recommend using the new L.E.D. lights that give off very little
heat.  Please make sure you water the tree every day.
